The new 2.2 CDVi engine from Mazda is a diesel with the extra power of Common Rail injection. Thanks to the incorporation of curved vanes in the turbo-compressor turbine, the extra power output is improved. The feeder pump has also been reworked to operate at a pressure of 2000 Bar, some 200 bar higher than before. To support this evolution, the pistons have been made out of an aluminium-based alloy. And to top all of this, the 2.2 CDVi producing 185 bhp and 400 Nm conforms to Euro-5, needs only 5.6 litres of diesel per 100km (in a Mazda 6) and is said to be particularly silent. |
